Today, I had to find simple words to explain to the idiot I was tutoring that "1/4" is not of a greater value than "1/3" just because the denominator is bigger. FML

Well, there's a reason why you're tutoring them.

Those little pie pieces always helped me. Try using real pie or pizza.

Wow, you should not be a tutor if such a small thing will frustrate you.

Your a tutor, it's your job, and that's messed up. It takes a lot of guts to ask for help when your struggling with something, and it's people like you that are the exact reason why people don't ask for it.

Fractions can be pretty hard! Your job as a tutor is to help kids with what confuses them, rather than making them feel stupid- if you do that, they'll certainly never want to learn! And hey, things could be worse- a sophomore in my pre-calc class last year didn't know what a fraction bar was!

Fractions are damned near impossible to teach.

Your such a little ass wipe. I tutor a kid who didn't know that either, but explaining it in a respectful manor and not calling him an idiot wether or not it was out loud. This is your job, if you can't handle working with struggling kids get a different one.

Wow,I feel really bad for that student. I had problems with math and a lot of people made me feel horrible because of it. Having a tutor that thinks you're an idiot for not understanding must be really terrible. Maybe you shouldn't be tutoring, things like that can lead to low self esteem and emotional issues for years.

Someone needs to go back to 5th grade

you just have to draw everything in the pie and they'll get it, I always always better with 1/3 is about 33.33% and 1/4 is 25%.. other than that they are doomed for the rest of their lives
