Today, I have been teaching my 5 year-old step-daughter how to read and write. She came bounding up to me with a piece of paper and said, "look what I did". It was a letter that said "My dad misses my real mommy, not you". FML

What if the kid's mum is actually dead? There would almost certainly be truth in what she was saying then - and a five year old is probably too young to understand that her dad could miss her mum and still be in love with and happily married to the OP...

that is true. i married a widower with a young daughter. the first few years were difficult on us, because he felt like he was betraying his late wife. we stuck it out and now we are coming up on eight years and very happy. I know part of his heart is always my (step)daughers mothers, but i also know he loves me with everything he has in him. there are no degrees of love. You either love someone or you dont. there is no loving this person this much and this person this much.

kids these days... they say the craziest shit... maybe she's angry cause her mommy isn't around now and you are... hopefully it's nothing else.... : S

you were teaching her how to read and write, and she's able to produce such an elaborate sentence already?

It's ok. She's only five & obviously not over the divorce (:

That's sucks! but keep in mind that she is just a kid and if you're actually worried then you must have known, at least unconsciously, that something is wrong in your relationship
