Today, I have to make a decision. I either drive my dad around during the day so he can drink, or I let him drink and drive so I can focus on studying for my exams. FML

Buy some booze, stay at home and have a drunken study session with the old man!

Sounds like you need to consult somebody you trust, OP. This is serious.

Eh he'll be fine! School is more important... Lol jk that would be bad. If I were u id go out and buy a case of beer and figure out a way to convince ur old man to stay home

Well if he keeps drinking the problem will sort itself out. Or send him to rehab forcefully. He'll thank you later.

You need to get him into family therapy.

hiding the car keys while focusing on your exams?

You can't continue to enable him. You have to take care of yourself

That's a horrible position to be in. I imagine trying to stand up to him wouldn't go well. I don't know I might be tempted to try it depending on the situation, if I just thought he'd yell at me I'd probably take the keys and/or tell him I'd call the cops if he drove (and I would, don't care who it is, I will report anybody for drinking and driving). You shouldn't have to give up studying and risk bad grades so he can drink. That's so wrong, he should be able to be a responsible adult and find safe transportation, stay at home and drink, or just not drink. If I really had to make the choice though, I'd choose to drive my dad around, if he was the kind of person where I had to make that choice I would likely have little to no respect for him and he'd deserve whatever happened but I don't think I'd really want him to die, and it's definitely not fair for anybody else to be hurt or killed if he causes an accident... I'd feel horrible if something happened because I didn't do anything to stop him or didn't just give in and drive him. I'm really sorry you have to be in that position though, and whatever happened, good luck on your exams (wishing you extra luck if you lost study time).
