Today, I heard screaming coming from my neighbor's house. Since her husband has a history of abusing her, I called the cops. After they left with him in custody, she called to yell at me because they were "working things out" after "having a few drinks". FML

It's couples like them that makes me lose hope in marriage

You did the right thing. A couple like that shouldn't work things out yelling over drinks. Chances are they really weren't.

You did the right thing. She yelled because she felt like she needed to justify being with this abusive loser. She'll come around. Thank you for not turning a blind eye.

I was gonna get on here to explain WHY what he said was stupid, but you guys did it for me, so thanks. :P

Time to cut down on the drinks, methinks. I hope the lady appreciates your considerateness in the future, OP.

Screw her. I'm a cop and I tend not to have much sympathy for that type. It's frustrating as hell

It wasn't any of your business.

Who gives a flying shit? If someone's in trouble or getting assulted by their spouse, we help them. She could have gotten killed or land in the hospital. "Not your business" my ass! What if YOU were in the woman's place and no one helped you?

So if you saw someone have a heart attack in the street or get hit by a car, you wouldn't do anything? You're a waste of oxygen.

coming from a cop, you did the right thing. id much rather deescalate the situation before it turns into a domestic assault.

Don't beat yourself up Op. You did the right thing. If he has a history of abuse and you hear screaming, you call the cops.

Since he has a history of abuse, I don't blame you. 'Working things out' is just the nasty cycle of domestic violence, and could, no doubt, happen again
