Today, I learned that I have a sinus infection, ear infection and bronchitis so bad it was on the verge of pneumonia. My work won't let me call in sick. I work with kids. Lovely. FML

And then I bet they'll also say "WHY DID YOU COME INTO WORK SICK? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!"

That's a great way to run a company, don't think about the workers or the customers

In all honesty, a doctor's note will hold up in court better than any imperative your boss screams at you through his/her cellphone.

I dont understand how your work "wouldn't let you call in sick" it's not up to them. That's the whole point of calling in sick. Grow a spine and stand up for yourself. Get a doc cert and sue if they fire you!

The day care I used to work in also had this policy, it's written on the contract you sign. You may not take sick days off no matter what, you must show up and finish your shift. I was 8months pregnant with a stomach virus, I was in the bathroom several times that day and all they could say was "we will see how busy it is by noon and if any children get picked up early if not we're sorry but you have to stay." :/

That's bullshit. Working with kids should be more of a reason to go home. If I felt that had and they told me I had to come in I wouldn't or that I had to stay I would have left. I've worked sick before but if you're constantly in the bathroom there is no point in being there.

Go in sick, coughing and hacking, with a doctor's note about what you have. Problem solved.

Well you probably can't call in cause you used all your off days already , you could and get penalized. But maybe a doctors note would suffice ? Or a hospital check in . Sorry OP .

It could be OP is someone who is constantly calling in. My work allows 12 call-ins in a 12 month period. Any more and they can fire you. With the info provided I'm going with the fact that OP dug themselves into this hole.

Trust me I've been there, not quite there but close. They don't care about the children and there health if it means finding a substitute for a day or more
