Today, I learned why my credit score is so low. My mom stole my identity almost three years ago. Her excuse? "You didn't need good credit for anything anyways". FML

Today, I found out my identity was stolen. The person got credit cards in my name and didn't pay the bills, which has ruined my near perfect credit. The worst part about all of this is that I can't turn the person in. It's my mom, and sending her to jail wouldn't really work out for anyone. FML

Today, all of my credit cards were frozen due to fraud. The culprit? My own mother. She rationalized it by saying I "owed" her for raising me. She didn’t even raise me. My grandma did. FML

Today, I received a call from a collection agency. Since I had no clue, I was ready to file a police report for stolen identity. I then called my mom only to find out she has been opening new credit cards with my information for 3 years and not paying them. My credit is ruined and I'm only 21. FML

Today, I had to dump my girlfriend because of tons of trust issues that kept reappearing. Shortly afterwards, my credit card disappeared and I got to experience my first identity theft. All within 24 hours. FML

You know that you're on the hook to repay the debts your Mom ran up under your name, don't you? Even if you aren't sued for repayment and/or choose not to pay off the debts, your credit will be trashed for 10 years. This will affect nearly everything you need/want: college loans, apartment rental, car loan, mortgage, JOB (many employers check credit before deciding to hire). The only way to restore your good credit it is to file an identity theft report with the police, then go about cleaning up the mess your Mom left you.

I know how you feel. My mom did the same thing. Maybe they're related. If you contact the collection agency that is used for whatever "debts" you've incurred, you can contest them.

The same sort of thing happened to me. When I turned 17 a lot of companies started sending me letters offering high interest credit cards. I just threw them in the bin. My mam apparently took the letters, applied and got the credit cards and started spending like crazy. I found out about the 35,000 euro debt she left me when I applied for a student loan to pay for my college fees. It became apparent pretty quickly what happened. Thankfully I was able to both clear any debt that was put onto me. My credit rating was back to normal within 2 months and the debts were transferred to her. She also went to jail for 3 months.

my boyfriends dad did the same thing. He let all his utilities go in his name and couldn't get them back so he decided to use his sons name and let all those go too. Now he desperately needs a new car and won't be able to get one anywhere except at a rip off place. That has me just furious.
