This is where Positive reinforcement fails. And you let the dog just run out and play?
oh God....at first when i read the part about the sliding glass door & the puppy i thought you were going to say something along the lines of "im on the second/third floor and my puppy walked off the balcony". so see? at least that didnt happen....
This is not even remotely an FML. OP must be a first time dog owner. And is anyone else pretty annoyed by all of these people spamming the same link all over the place?
awww poor thing! Dogs can really be like kids sometimes... But I agree with those telling you not to rub his face in it, it confuses the dog. You're better off teaching your dog who the alpha is (you) by using a deep voice when you say "No" or whatever negative word and a high voice for "good dog!". This mimicks the different types of barks the pack leader would give the pup when it behaves or misbehaves. It is much more effective than "traditional" dog training. Next time, try puppy pad training the dog by placing the pad by the door. the dog will get the message that you want him to poop or pee on the pad and when you remove the pad, the dog will go to the door and not seeing the pad he or she will let you know they gotta potty and you can let them outside. I've trained 4 dogs this way and it works like a charm!
"Today, my new puppy pooped in the house. FML."
