Uhm. At least here in Canada. The diesel fuel nozzle is larger than the hole for a gas powered vehicle. So, you either have to force it.. Or have good aim. Sadly.. There's been more than a few people put gas in diesel vehicles. At least he didn't managed to start it and drown your system in diesel. Good luck OP

Actually, petrol and diesel are liquids. It's the fumes from them that combust.
Your new car must not be that new or you Brits gotta redesign your new cars. You can't fit a diesel pump in any new gasoline vehicle in the states.
