Today, I'm travelling to England for an important meeting. I'm Norwegian, and my name is Bård. I have to introduce myself as "bored" the whole day, because that's how my name is pronounced. FML

So then why didn't your parents consider Mandarin Chinese? Or why won't you consider Mandarin when naming your children, #27?

hahaha, thats funny... so funny in fact that the mods, for once, allowed an FML from another part of the world.... nice one though.. :D

That's hilarious! To those who says he can pronounce his name the way he wants; I'm Norwegian too, and I know that "bored" is just how his name's pronounced here, might be an easy thing not to think about. Yet there are things that are worse in our language/country in coherence to english, like a small place called Hell (which means "luck" in norwegian.) "So, where do you come from?"

I like it! Norwegian names are kind of complicated; My brother's name is "Are" - guess how they say that! My name is Sindre - no way in hell they can say that right. Haha! :-) Good luck Bård.

I say, be proud of your name. They will figure it out or get over it. I do not think that people from other countries should consider other languages before naming their child. Thats rediculous. How about people from America or England get over themselves and open their minds a little.

Yur name is Bård everyday..why is it an FML today..

I knew a girl in college named "Shuh-theed" (actually written ********...I kid you not!). Not American, of course. I agree with #24. Make a joke about it and lighten up the mood, Bored ;)

I think it was when I worked with a Dr. Dikshit (pron. "Dixie", apparently) that I started gaining sympathy for names that don't really translate...

LOL I wanna meet this girl :)

If your name doesn't work well in another country, then just pick a nickname for use in that country. Buddy of mine did that when he went to China because they couldn't pronounce his name.

Jeez and this is a problem ? Muffle the pronunciation a bit or something. But still ..what the hell, this is your name and why should you care what it actually means in another language.

My name is Inga. I live in Japan. In japanese, "inga" means "inappropriate photograph". FML
