Today, I moved back in with my parents in order to help them with the mortgage, so they don't lose the house that has been in our family for three generations. I also found out that I now have a curfew, and so does my husband and our 3 year old son. FML

the house has been in the family for 3 generations and noone has managed to pay off the mortgage... so do you plan on taking over the debt next? lol

you shouldn't have a mortgage if this house has supposedly been in your family for three generations.

how does a house that's been in the family for 3 generations have a mortgage still?

I am so confused here... if the house has been in the family for 3 generations, why do they still have a mortgage?? The only explanation I can think of is that they re-mortgaged the house to pay for something else, like another house. In which case, you'd think they'd sell the second house (or whatever it was they bought) if they were in such danger of losing their original house.

Well, you're an adult. Explain to your parents that as you are helping them out, you need to be treated like an adult and they can't impose childish rules on you. If they insist, then remind them you can move out and ask them where the help will be coming from then. Unless your own circumstances are leading you to be dependent upon them for housing as well. In that case, suck it up.

if it's been in your family for 3 generations why the hell are they still paying for it? no mortgage is that long/expensive.
