Today, I only just found out that the abbreviation "lbs" is actually short for pounds. I've been saying "labs" my entire life. I'm 21. FML

I guess we all know you didn't pay attention in school.

I'm surprised that nobody ever corrected you before. You must have some crap friends.

I used to call it "lobs", being from Australia the only time we used pounds was when we played a game once in year six and it was always written, not said. It's an easy mistake to make!

Lbs is an abbreviation for the Latin libra (weight), which the first half of libra pondo (pound weight), whose second word gives us the English word pound. Libra also gives us the word liberty and pondo gives us ponder.

Even I knew that and here we get taught the metric system

Lbs is short for "Lebras," which means pounds in Latin.

WOW SERIOUSLY??? You learn that lbs stands for pounds in like, 3rd or 4th grade. YDI because you are just that ignorant.

I am ashamed to be the same species as you. You are 21 and you had no idea that lbs stood for pounds? I turn 20 this year and I have known that lbs stands for pounds since I was, what, 8 or 9 years old.

I always think "libs" in my mind but I know that it means pounds.
