Today, I opened my heart to my father-in-law, telling him how he was a very good example for us and how his name would be great for our first born son, he interrupted, saying, "Cut the cheesy crap, now." FML

Don't worry OP, he really appreciates it, but maybe he's too shy to actually share his actual emotions? Good thought, though. :)

20, Incidentally, I have a dick of a manager named Ricardo.

So cut the cheesy crap! I named my son after no one not even myself. So stop kissing up.

It's not cheesy my younger brother was named after my grandad. No one else in our family is named after anyone, maybe OP likes their father in laws name?

Are we aware this story is from Mexico? And their most beloved cheese worldwide us...?

A lot of people consider it sweet, but there are some who don't like the idea to name the child after someone because it seems too nice/sappy. Some prefer that the child not be named after someone even though the intent is good that they don't like the child being named after them for other reasons like they don't like the idea of the kid being called junior or whatever the case might be. He wants the kid to have his own name/identity. Some people do feel that way and while it's a nice gesture he feels like it's too much and probably has other reasons. Talk to him about it, and ask him what the other reasons are.

Richard is my manager, and I do in fact call him dick.

It's true, you're too much of an ass kisser

Well, he didn't have to be so abrupt about it, but what's the big deal? Some people just don't like talking about "the cheesy crap." It doesn't mean they don't care, but there's no reason to have a chick flick moment. That stuff makes some people uncomfortable. But he could have been a little less rude sounding.
