You may want to reconsider your proposal. If you have doubts, DON'T DO IT.
She has to wear the ring for the rest of her life, it's only fair she gets to wear a ring she likes. Also you're lucky she loves you enough to try and keep her dislike of the ring away from you. At the end of the day she is an individual and she's allowed her own opinions.
OP should have at the very least consulted a friend or family member if he didn't know what she liked. Even better, he should have casually browsed a jewelry store with her so she could point out things. If I were a guy I would jump through hoops so I was confident I was avoiding this situation, especially before spending money on such a big purchase, regardless of the price. How she acted wasn't good, but I can't imagine buying something without being 100% confident the recipient would like it.
I hate ungrateful people.
If you think an engagement ring is expensive, just wait till you see how much a divorce costs you. I'd cut my losses now, especially if it's been less than 30 days since the date of purchase.
Run!!!!!
now I ain't sayin she's a gold digger...but..you know.
