Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She asked if the ring was a temporary thing until I got a better one, saw my dumbfounded face, then played it off as a joke and said yes. I later found out she'd posted on Facebook bitching about the ring, but with the privacy setting set to hide it from me. FML

Well she sounds like an ungrateful bitch.

I'm sorry people but, I know it wasn't right for her to bitch about it, but come on. At least she had the decency to not say it to his face. She wanted to spare his feelings a bit

I think talking to him about it like an adult instead of gossiping behind his back is the better choice.

I think her reaction is appalling. Most men try to put thought and consideration into the ring. Sure we might miss details like she doesn't wear silver if we were never told but hey, we proposed! My fiancé doesn't wear gold, prefers symmetrical but loved the amethyst heart because I made an effort and picked what I thought she would like. Give a guy a break.

haha after that i would take back my ring annnd my proposal

golddiggers are not the way to go. find someone who's grateful enough to appreciate you, bud.

Well add a few more things to it to make it her wedding band...problem solved...

drop that bitch right away. save yourself further heartache down the road. also take back the ring.

This is what is referred to as an "Early Warning Sign"

Shoulda put it in her drink. If she choked on it, you'll know the size of the ring wasn't the problem.

I'm not justifying the girlfriend's actions, but it seems to me that if the OP knows the girl so well that he wants to marry her, then he probably should have already noticed if she is very materialistic. Her taste in clothing, restaurants, accessories, etc. probably all show her materialism (or lack thereof). On another note, there seem to be a few women commenting here who took back/exchanged their engagement rings and are now married. Even if you think that's materialistic or wrong, heck, those are the women who are getting married, so men must like that type of woman, no?

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

#179: There's a big difference between "like" and "put up with." Some men will settle with just about any woman if it means they get approval from their families or gain some sort of social status that they can flaunt. That being said, they may just be in love with the idea of getting married rather than the woman.
