Today, I ran into an old friend, and she remarked how she couldn't believe we hadn't seen each other in a year. Except not only did I attend her baby shower a few weeks ago, I spent hundreds of dollars on a unique gift. FML

The exact same thing happened to me but instead of a babyshower it was her wedding.

That sucks :/ but considering you just went to her baby shower, I'm sure she's just been really busy with her new baby and REALLY sleep deprived, so try not to take it personally(:

Maybe your friend has a twin, and you were friends with both without realizing. You haven't seen twin 1 in a year, but were just at twin 2's Baby shower. Eh? Could be.

I think that the operative word in your narrative is that you were an "old" friend. Maybe she is showing signs of early Alzheimer's disease.

I'm just speculating here but, you said you had been at her baby shower a few weeks ago, therefore it's safe to assume she's recently given birth and that the child is at most six months old. Babies at that age are generally very tiring, therefore she's most likely very tired and was unable to recall whether or not you where present at the aforementioned baby shower. Again, just speculating here.

What an idiot! Does she suffer from short term memory loss or something?!

I'd give her a pass. When you're pregnant, your brain won't work right. I forget words, places, the other day I forgot how old I am.

People seem to only want to know you when it benefits them...

That happens to all of us! I once remarked how I hadn't seen a friend in years, I'd seen them in the last month! I'm old so that's my excuse but I'm hearing about this pregnancy brain, never heard of it when I was having kids but, I guess it gives you amnesia!

Blame it on the pregnancy brain
