Today, I ran into my boyfriend of 5 years. The weird thing was that he was supposed to be in Iran. The even weirder thing was that he was with his wife and kids. FML

I'd hate to say it but if he said Iran that should have been a red flag immediately. If he doesn't work in the oil business or privet security then he wouldn't be going to Iran. Maybe Saudi Arabia or UAE but not Iran. Regardless though it's still an awful experience.

Just because someone says they're going to a place that has had soldiers in it in the last 10 years, doesn't mean they're going there as a soldier and the same goes for business too. Op's "boyfriend" could have said he was going to visit family, or simply for recreation.

You see I automatically ruled out that the OP's BF is military. Reason being is that we don't have anyone there except the Navy patrolling the Gulf. If that were the case I'm sure a key word like 'deployment' would have been used. So that's why there is the possibility of him being in privet industry. Sure family could be there but not likely since Iran does not like it's people leaving for the US and a lot (not all) Iranian decent don't want to go back to Iran. Also I have no idea what the first part of your first sentence even means.

I don't mean any offence, but you seem to have no clue about Iran. Almost everyone, who has moved away from Iran, still returns to visit on a regular basis.
