I think it's such a turn on when girls work in video game, electronics, mechanics stores, anything that is perceived as a "guys job" and she actually knows more about everything than some guys.
As a female and an apprentice mechanic, I approve this comment! Thank you, Mr. Bond.
I know my display name is "TheMathMajor," but I'm actually studying to be an engineer, so I definitely support women in male dominated fields. Women are just as capable of doing those jobs as men are, but they are discouraged from going into those fields, maybe not directly, but definitely from societal pressures. On a seemingly random but related note. Some studies have shown that if a child pays with Legos, he or she will have better math and problem solving skills as an adult, yet Legos are almost exclusively advertised towards boys. This is why it's so important to break down gender norms and stereotypes seeing how much they affect the decisions people make from a very young age. It's difficult to raise a child in a completely gender neutral environment in todays society, but I think it is very important to do so.
I wanted to become a sound engineer but a guy I know that works in that environment told me that a girl sound engineer had to be better than all the men just to be considered any good... It kinda discouraged me...
haha #125 I know how that feels "oh, I wanted to talk to one of the tech guys" yup... that's me.
Hide a tape recorder on your person and start recording whenever you speak to anybody who could fire you. You may be able to catch them on tape firing you for your gender and then you can use that recording as evidence in the lawsuit. A bar tender who got fired from her job at a topless bar for being pregnant nailed her former employer by doing just that. Good luck!
A pregnant chick working at a topless bar? Gonna be a great parent -_-
She was BAR TENDER not a stripper or a topless waitress. In any case it's pretty shitty to fire someone who will soon have to feed a child. If they were concerned about how it would have affected their profits, they could have put her on maternity leave with pay.
i was a bartender when i got pregnant, i hid it till new years only cause they were trying to get me to drink and i couldnt, my boss cut my shifts right down when he found out, causing me to quit cause i wasnt making enough money, so much for my maternity pay :(
86, That's just terrible. I hope you found work again and that you and your baby are doing well.
14 - You have a link to that case bro? Where did that happen? According to current law it's illegal to record someone without their permission or forewarning. If she did that, the evidence might have gotten thrown out. It may vary state to state though and it could depend on capacity of the individual. Dammit law school is making me long-winded...
I heard about the case on the news several years ago. It's my understanding that laws regarding unknowingly being recorded do vary state to state. I'm no lawyer or law student but I've been told that some states only place restrictions on secretly recording somebody to places where the subject should reasonably expect privacy, such as their home or a doctor's exam room. My guess is that whether or not the workplace would fall under that category would depend on the circumstances and the judge's discretion.
I believe I saw it on Fox News "The O'Reilly Factor" with Bill O'Reilly and Megyn Kelly (yes that's the correct spelling of her name). If memory serves, you can try searching for it that way.
thanks! i did and been to school since, he is three now and the bar seems to have gobe right down hill haha sucks to be him i guess karma kicked his ass, i was just lucky to have an amazing family to help me out :)
Good. :) I'm glad things worked out for you.
Well sure, did you realise that makes perfect sense? While we're at it, we ought to ban men from working in hair salons and clothing stores because they can't do the work as well as women can. Everybody knows that. >_> Ugh, some people... I think men would be surprised at how many women play video games. I myself have gotten through most of the Zelda games, all the Sims games and many more, too many to even count. I'm sure I'm not the only female and I'm pretty damn positive that other girls have done more than that. But nope, apparently we "can't work in video game stores". Because we're girls. Well, gr, my mini rant is now over. But seriously, LAWSUIT.
Bit embarrassing and ironic that you used Sims as an example of a game that makes you a proper gamer...but I agree with the rest.
Ugh, you can play whatever games you like, I never said you couldn't. However, I believe you were using yourself as an example of girls playing games and, in the context, supporting that girls can take up gamer jobs because they play games too. I just found it ironic that one of the games you namedropped to support your claim was one that a lot of people wouldn't really consider a proper game or namedrop in such a situation. It's kind of like saying, 'hey, girls can be good cooks too - I made some toast once!' I wouldn't suggest you or someone else with similar tastes shouldn't be hired, however I doubt you would be able to help me choose a new game that would suit my preferences.
43 - Okay, I'm a girl and my favorite game is a tie between Jet Set Radio and Heavy Rain. Happy? We're not all casuals.
A video game is a video game, dumbass. First person shooters aren't the only kind of games sold in video game stores, and the impression that I'm getting from you is that those are the only "real" games. Not everyone shares your taste, like her, and people who do share her taste in games might want her opinion and help with them. .....................
Okay, lets set some things straight here for those that apparently like to comment without reading. I never said all girls were casual gamers or only fps games are real games because both of those statements are stupid and I wholeheartedly disagree with them. I also never said that she would be useless in a video game store - I actually said the opposite, that the fact she likes Sims shouldn't stop her from being hired. Had I felt the need to elaborate I would've cited the reason you gave but I was hoping you wouldn't jump to stupid assumptions. All I DID say was that *I* found it comical that she chose Sims IN THAT CONTEXT - and not because of the genre but because most people I've spoken to have never played it properly, as a game - they play for a couple of hours, maybe spend some time downloading new clothes and eventually kill everyone and go play something else. That doesn't mean you CAN'T play it through properly and meet all the goals, I've just never met anyone who does or has ever considered it. I also said she probably wouldn't be able to help me choose a game which, assuming we have different tastes, is fair enough. Make sense?
I LOVE the Zelda series! I have every Zelda game :) ( in fact I bought a 3DS for the sole purpose of getting OOT) I'm a girl gamer haha I don't consider me a hardcore one. I play Minecraft, Zelda, Mario and I really want to play Portal (both 1 and 2) oh and a also love brawl :) as for first person shooters, they really aren't my cup of tea, but I have played a few (halo and call of duty)
Eh, possibly my view evolved as I was trying to explain it more. I'm glad we're more on the same page though - I was genuinely shocked when 74 told me I only considered fps to be proper games! As if!
I suggested FPS because fantasy or RPG didn't seem to be "proper gaming" to you. "I wouldn't suggest you or someone else with similar tastes shouldn't be hired, however I doubt you would be able to help me choose a new game that would suit my preferences." That made it sound as though your opinion of "proper gaming" is the only "corrrect" opinion of "proper gaming" and that she would NOT be suitable to work in a game store. I'm not trying to disagree with you right now. I'm just lettin' ya know where I came from.
Ehhhh, I read "wouldn't suggest you or someone else with similar tastes shouldn't be hired" as "wouldn't suggest you or someone else with similar tastes SHOULD be hired." That clears things up...
Lol I get where doodlecloud is coming from when I read the coment I was like Sims? really? no I love that game but if I was telling someone I was a gamer girl the games I like to mention are like Skyrim, Halo, or COD (i do actially like those games) but Its like who cares I guess video games are video games.
That is horrible! I work at a GameStop and my DM wouldn't dream of saying that, he knows we sell more games than the men!
Well of course. That double X easily overpowers the feeble virgin. XP
Guess you just got.. *sunglasses maneuver* played. YEOWWWWWW.
Fail. You're supposed to put "YEEEEAAAA!" at the end.
I apologise. I've never actually seen the show.
I sincerely hope that if this does happen you go on to become obscenely rich as a result. If you can, though, I'd suggest taking your DM's comments up the ladder to his boss. When upper management smell an impending lawsuit of vast and costly proportions, they'll likely act fast to nip it in the bud.
You know what any a man can do a woman can do better, faster and look great doing it
Reverse sexism much?
A) What the hell is "reverse" sexism? Sexism is sexism no matter who the target is. B) It's an old joke. Just thumb the unoriginal little shit down and move on.
I agree. That's serious bullshit.
Yeah I wouldn't worry to much OP if they don't fire you cool you keep ya job but if they do then you can turn around and sue them. If I was you I would also put a complaint into whoever the district managers boss is so it's also on record about it so if they turn around and fire you then you have even more proof that it was unjustified and sexist or your district manager will cop an earful about it which would give you the satisfaction of knowing he's getting in shit because of it.

I spy a gender discrimination lawsuit!
Oh, sexism. Never ceases to amaze me. There was a dad at the school I used to work for who would call in and scream at all the women, and then tell the men that "he couldn't believe they could handle working with so many women". FYL indeed, OP.
