Sorry to hear that OP. If you need an "open relationship" though, why even be in a "relationship"?
Ugh, all the ignorant comments here are gonna make me sick. Open relationships are not inherently bad; I've been in one for a little over a year, and it's working well for me and my girlfriend. I don't think either of us could ever go back to monogamy, because it just doesn't suit us. Just because OP's experience is a negative one does not mean that open relationships will always fail!
Why would you have an open relationship anyway?!
A person who goes back to their ex is really not over the past and is not getting anywhere in life. lol
What a shocker
A real open relationship that works is more work than having a monogamous relationship. To get it work you need a functioning emotional relationship with your partner, lots of thrust and a very good and honest communication. If you just say "it open now" youll probably fail. Besides that there many ways of having an "open" relationship. For example swinging, trading partners with other couples youre friends with. If the open Relationship is an one sided demand it can be a sign thats somethings amiss in the relationship for the one demanding it.
To all the people slamming you for open relationships, to hell with them. Open relationships that work are TONS of work, and you have to have a really solid foundation and clearly established and communicated rules guiding conduct. If you can make it work, I've seen them be really healthy and happy relationships. No exes should have been an obvious rule though. If someone violates the rules of an open relationship, it's still cheating.

A relationship is like a circle. When a circle is open, it's not a circle anymore.
Open relationships are like getting drunk on a Tuesday - it may seems like a strange idea at first, but then it starts to seem like a great idea, then it gets better and better and better until at the end it ******* sucks and you're left drooling and crying on the toilet.
