Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML

stay with a friend or someone. or in his case go into the army. he got housing and a job at the same time.

Your father sounds horribly unsupportive and cold. I'm sorry his reaction was not more kind, but unless he was joking, I'm sure you've come to expect such things from him. In any event, the best way to deal with a person like that is to get "revenge" by working hard, becoming successful, and generally living the best life you can. His unwillingness to share in your successes will be a greater loss for him each time you succeed. Congratulations on your acceptance, and best of luck to you in your studies.

your dad sucks but he has a point. there are no more "prestigious" schools. even dartmouth voted "keggy the keg" as the new mascot. dartmouth is an ivy leauge school.

It's an unofficial mascot - the official one is still the Big Green. Last time I checked, it was okay to have a sense of humor without automatically losing your intelligence. Also, OP cannot be referring to an Ivy League school as they do not give merit-based scholarships, only financial aid.
