I live in the UK, but I would recognise a black widow if I saw one, they're one of the most well known spiders out there. I too find it hard to believe you would have never come across at least a picture of one (especially living somewhere where they turn up in your bathroom). Even if you don't know what kind it is, their distinctive look should be enough of a warning. I feel sorry for the dog, but you are an idiot.
lol @ #36 I guess it might make me a terrible person, but as a pet owner, hearing about people who have recklessly and thoughtlessly laid waste to their pets makes it seem to me that it *should have* been them that went for the spider, and gone down for the count. Imho, anyway.
#35 It could have been a male black widow. Meaning it would not have had the red spot on its abdomen.
Wow, a lot of the people on here are pretty callous. Maybe the person posting this didn't know what a black widow looked like (depending upon the subspecies, there may not have been red markings on it's back, and if it was a North American species and the poster saw it from the top, the red hourglass clearly wouldn't be seen. If they're an arachnophobe then they probably didn't look at the spider too closely at all). Also, my dog LOVES to kill/eat bugs and spiders of all sorts (he treats it like a game), so I usually don't think twice about calling him to get rid of creepy-crawlies for me, provided I know what they are (also, venomous insects that can kill are very rare were I live). So, all in all, if this post is indeed true, I feel very bad for both the dog and the OP. :(
#48: But, really, you said it in your own post. "...so I usually don't think twice about calling him to get rid of creepy-crawlies for me, provided I know what they are." Provided you know what they are. I rest my case? =]
WWHHAAAAAAAT THHE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKK! The spider is in the goddamn BATHTUB, drown it and watch it spin down the drain! DUMB Bitch!
You should have died, not the dog. Idiot.

Oiii, that's so terrible!! I'm sorry to hear that. ):
Wow. This is why you run water when the spider is in the bathtub. Poor dog.
