Today, I signed the lease on my first apartment alone with my boyfriend. We've lived here a month before we got to sign. Today is also the day my neighbors decided to show how they're night owls: all I hear is banging on the walls and them loudly talking and yelling. This will be a long year. FML

Return the favor. Personally, I'd prefer roaring or moaning like your life depends on an ****** everytime you have sex. Get creative, OP. Either that or talk to them/landlord. They're both fine choices.

My boyfriend and I are in the same boat. One year lease. Screaming kids on one side, partiers on the other. -.-

I mean you're making an assumption that this is how it is now, based on one night? Maybe they just had an argument or something? Is one night really this drastic?

its 9:30 and they've already started back up again

There's Management. There's the police. You can do something about it.

File complaints until the land lord takes them to court. That's what my mom did.

last night was two in a row, they were loud all night again

What I would do is approach them two or three times & ask them to quiet down; give them a fair chance to realize they're too loud & be considerate. However, make record of the dates & times. I'm not kidding... get a pen & a piece to record the day, what time it was, & if possible who it was you spoke to. If you want to go all-out, try to write down what was discussed/what was said. I know it sounds like a lot of work for this, but if you call non-emergency police to file a noise complaint or speak to your landlord/landlady, you'll have something to prove that you've tried all you can do as a neighbor to get them to quiet down & you really aren't just being "that guy." You pay rent just like they do; you have the right to sleep at night without hearing someone hollering & the right to watch television without jumping at the thumps against your wall.
