hey thanks for the comments guys. to answer a few questions neither the kid nor the parent knew he was allergic. aparently he reacted to the red food coloring which caused him to break out in a full body rash the poor little guy was so upset. but now we know he isn't allergic to all ice cream so I told him and the mom they will have free ice cream on me for the rest of the year... as long as it doesn't have red dye! Thanks to all who commented, Cheers!

that was very nice of you :) Don't feel too bad, you didn't know.
It's the thought that counts??

Oh that's really nice! You're a generous person OP!
recently found out I'm allergic to red dye as well. I'm 25.
I'm allergic to it too except I throw up.
wow that was extremely nice of you op. we need more people like you. hopefully your act of kindness will plant a seed in that little boys head :)
Awesome, that's great to hear! I wish you were my town's ice cream man :)
The ice cream man of everyone's dreams!
Too bad its illegal to enter my town in an ice cream truck...
131- Where do you live?! Hell?
Wow! You're a pretty fabulous ice cream man, OP. And this is a true FML - you tried to do something nice and it turned on you! At least it worked out, the kid's ok, and you're not in trouble!!
My dog is.
Allergies come and go? THERE'S HOPE! I WON'T BE ALLERGIC TO EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN!
I found out recently that I'm allergic to red dye as well. The only thing is that I don't get a physical reaction. It makes me act like I'm drunk.
Don't beat yourself up over it OP. it happens to the best of us
The kid probably didn't even know he was allergic.
It's not your fault OP. If the kid is old enough to be away from his parents then he is old enough to ask what's in the ice cream. I work at a daycare and the 4 year olds with allergies know what they can and can't have, and if they're unsure they ask.
Actually, I agree with you normally, so I'm unsure why this was down voted so much. Granted, in this case, the follow-up shows the kid didn't know either, but still.
This is really sad
Americans are the most allergy prone people on earth.
What's with the down votes here? 74 is right.
You're a dumbass. Location has nothing to do with being more allergy prone. That's like saying native African men are more prone to have bigger equipment than African American men
Actually, the longer your family has been in the US, the greater your chance of allergies are. It may not make sense but those are statistics. I blame welfare and our inability to let Darwin have them.
Actually, it's true. Americans do tend toward more allergies than other areas. Combination of genetics and environment. First world issues - people in harsher environments either get over it or die, usually from other causes.
At least you were trying to be nice.

That sucks OP! It wasn't your fault. You didn't know.
