Today, I sold ice cream to a group of kids. One of them looked sad, because he was the only one who couldn't buy any, so I gave him some for free. Apparently, he was allergic to something in it, and ended up being rushed to the hospital. FML

Snarty tells us more.

hey thanks for the comments guys. to answer a few questions neither the kid nor the parent knew he was allergic. aparently he reacted to the red food coloring which caused him to break out in a full body rash the poor little guy was so upset. but now we know he isn't allergic to all ice cream so I told him and the mom they will have free ice cream on me for the rest of the year... as long as it doesn't have red dye! Thanks to all who commented, Cheers!

That sucks OP! It wasn't your fault. You didn't know.

you were being nice you didn't know the kid had allergies don't beat yourself up when I was a kid we had an ice cream truck come down our road one day my little sister and I couldn't get some money to buy ice cream the guy in the truck gave us some lemon freeze pops free since the other kids had gotten ice cream and he saw us just sitting watching sad as the other kids ate their ice cream

he knew he had allergies. he should have explained that to you and declined. it's not your fault.

Holy crap! READ what the OP said in the follow-up....

It's not your fault, if the kid wasn't buying anything that means he knew he had an allergy. He should not have accepted your kind gesture. You were just trying to be nice.

Read the follow up. Neither kid nor parent knew about the allergy. You can't blame people who don't know

Kids are stupid, yeah, but there _is_ a line. Eating something they know they're allergic too is on the other side of that line. I don't care how old you are, if you know you have peanut allergy its YOUR job to make sure you don't eat something with peanuts; not the rest of the world.

Do you not know how to read?! OP said that the kid and the parents had NO IDEA that he was allergic its very easy to develop allergies and not know it for a while especially if its something that isnt common

Why are people so stupid and ignorant enough to not read what the op said?

#124, Because on the FML homepage where all of the FMLS are listed, this FML does not say "This FML has been commented on by its original poster".

This reminds me of that simpsons episode with Homer and the lactose intolerant kid. You ment well OP. Hopefully you don't get blamed for this.

PEOPLE! ******* READ what OP said! No one knew the kid was allergic, he's getting free ice cream for the rest of the year, and no one's getting sued. Holy shit.

Good gesture, unfortunate misunderstanding.

Eh crap happens in life, but the results after though are good, thankfully no one involved is going overboard. But then again, lucky kid with free treats ! :)

Kudos to your big heart. You had nothing but good intentions. And you are doing everything in your power to make up for it. Mistakes happen. Don't bully yourself over it too much. Thank goodness the kid is ok. :-)
