Today, I spent a while in a tree after fleeing a rampaging Blue Tongue lizard, only to be chased back out of it by an angry possum. Australian wildlife. FML

Hey guys, just a lil bit of clarification. I was holding onto the tree to get a good look at the blue tongue (which was over half a metre long). We're not normally afraid of her, she's come into our house (which I'll put a picture of in my profile). It's just that that day I was too near her hidey hole so she chased me. I was in the tree havin a little stare-down with her when I must have moved a little too high up because this possum comes out of no where right up into my face. Scared the shit out of me so I ****** legged it inside. I'm also 16 so I don't have a heap of options about where I live lol

Blue tongue lizards really aren't that scary? Seriously unless you're waving your hand in front of their mouth they can't harm you. Clearly you weren't meant for Australian living.

I think 9 was talking proportionally their bodies are large compared to their legs. Goannas in fact can climb trees quite well with their claws as well.

Sorry mate, but neither of those things are the least bit scary!

Wait. I thought Australian possums were little cute fluffy things, and North America has the scary ones? YDI, man.

Lucky there wasn't a drop bear in the tree.

I love it when all the animal experts come out, and they all say different things.

Oh she's adorable. I can understand maybe the size putting you off and if it's breeding season (unsure of reptiles breeding cycle). But I'd rather her and a Brown Snake or Taipan.

Still, they're both small (half a meter is 18in, roughly, for my non-metric friends here), and to get so scared of either of them is still pretty weird. I'm not seeing the FML here.

Dude, you got scared of a lizard? seriously?! Also, last night I was feeding a possum. That gorgeous little creature took food straight out of my hand.

But you were most likely not near the possum's home and thus it had no reason to defend itself.

And that's fine until you end up with rabies

You realize that it's extremely rare for a possum to have rabies, right? Guess not by your comment.

just pick the blue tongue lizard up they are harmless at least you werent being chased by a dugite

Both of those things are harmless, non aggressive and frankly adorable.

Blue tongues don't grow very large and are seldom aggressive. I think you're simply a wimp.

Story Time: One time my mom was walking up these stairs, carrying a bag of fast food and somehow a raccoon (a furry little mammal that looks and acts like a thief) managed to get inside and follow her up the stairs, begging for food. She had to run from this little guy, not wanting him to get violent (raccoons get into fights over food at times) and possibly snatch her food. Luckily she made it out safe.
