Today, I spent eight hours cutting, curing, and aligning on the racks, six months worth of beef to be dried for some tasty jerky, only to find out my dehydrator is broken beyond repair, and would cost as much to fix as the soon-to-spoil meat that I bought. FML

If it were me, I would try to get the dehydrator fixed before the meat spoils, even though it is expensive, because you will probably need it in the future

That's a major bummer, but with all of that careful preparation why didn't you check over your equipment ahead of time? FYL

Use the oven, set on the lowest heat level.

That's like a condom breaking before a date so you go gay.

Couldn't you just freeze it until you got a new dehydrator?

Alton brown had some kind of way he makes jerky with out those

Definitely just put it in the oven. I put them on the lowest setting and kabob pieces of jerky on skewers and layer them across the oven rack. 6-8 hours and they are wonderful.

Double checking equipment and occasional preventative maintenance can save a lot more than money, namely time, effort and stress. Take it as a lesson to be learned.

what about refrigerating or freezing it until you can solve the machine dilemma? Or having the best barbecue in recent history :)

Why not just freeze the meat until you fix it or find another alternative???

Serves you right for making jerky. I would only feed that to my dog.
