Today, I spoke to a highly recommended therapist for my special-needs child. After 45 minutes of describing our challenges, heartbreaks and other very personal information, she told me that her schedule was permanently full. But she invited me to go through the phone book to find someone else. FML

Hi_Five tells us more.

OP here - uh, no. You are making things up out of whole cloth. I would never self-diagnose my kid. We have been through years of trying to get the best help we can find, and that does not include charlatans, vaccine-deniers and the internet. Try again.

Why would she even speak to you in the first place if she knew she was full? Way to waste your time, esp for something that's so delicate. I hope you find someone better.

That's really unprofessional I can't see why they are highly recommended. I hope you find a good therapist to help you with your kid. Special need therapists can be really great if you get a good one. I know this because I use to see one for medical related anxiety problems... Best of luck OP.

That is so unprofessional and inconsiderate. If she already knew she was full why would she waste your time? Your child deserves to see a more compassionate/caring therapist.

Look on the bright side, at least this douche bag won't be the one who takes care of your child's needs.

I am so sorry that you had to go through this. I work with special needs children and I absolutely love them. They are like my own kids and I know how hard it can be to have a child with special needs. just know that there ARE people out there who know how amazing you are :)

Wow. Your kid is so ****** up that even a therapist can't help...

Thanks, that's a super-helpful thing to say.

#67/Op they have the right to say it. this is FML not an advice board. and honestly maybe your kid is such a ****** up mess that that therapist doesn't have time to or doesn't want to deal with and it's their right to decide not to. I would say its no less helpful than other comments considering what FML is and what it isn't.

Why don't you clean off your spittle-flecked screen. You must have felt such a sense of accomplishment for putting a mother in her place. Bravo. Yours must be so proud.

The therapist too is full. Sorry she wasted your time and energy. I am sure you'll find a better therapist, that one is not a good one!

maybe the therapist didn't want to deal with the family. I mean if op bitched and complained for 45 mins while "describing our challenges" she just thought **** this noise and shut her down. just saying it could be op either came off as sorta dramatic/psycho or is. while what the therapist did was unprofessional at best it's possible they had a good and valid reason of doing it.

What exactly do you think a therapist does, anyway? Have you just read about them on the internet? Get back to class.

#71 they have a choice. they can choose who to take on. and I don't give one flying **** that you're a mother that's nothing special. yes it's their job to help you but they can choose not to. they can choose that since you're such a psychotic bitch they don't want to have to deal with you and your ****** up kid. it's possible that it wasn't your kid but you that she didn't want to deal with. a therapist has a right to choose who they want to and can deal with

Find a music therapist ;). I have a whole caseload of kids with disabilities and they love it.
