Today, I thought that I had finally sold the car I've been trying to sell for two years. I had the money in my hand and had given over the title. As the "new" owner went to drive it away, the car wouldn't start. I had to give the money back. FML

It was my car and I did drive it to meet them, they test drove the car, turned it off as we negotiated and then when they went to start it again, it didn't start. Apparently, the fuel pump went out in it. Also, I gave the money back because I would have felt like a jerk for not doing that. And I wish that this was fake...then I wouldn't be out a couple thousand dollars right now.

depending on what type of car it is and how old, a fuel pump is only about $150, give or take some. My boyfriends cost $120 and my dad's cost $200. Tell them you will have it fixed and then sell it to them.

Who would buy a car without test driving it first? Your buyer sounds like a dolt.

Why did you give it back. You didn't have to you had the money, he/she had the title, you had traded. It would have been their fault for not checking whether or not the car was in running condition.

take the money and run deal was done no refunds

seeing as how he had the title. ITS HIS ******* CAR. keep your money retard. he either looked over the car or didnt. either way he bought it and what happens next is his problem.

It's your responsibility to make sure the car works, unless you stated in the paper that it didn't. YDI.

not so much of an fml for me. you could probably get it fixed and sell the car.

Not that repairing the car would cost the OP money or anything...

glass - he allready sold his car the other guy can fix

i hardly believe this crap. stop posting fake stories. if you were just sexually assaulted would you be on fmylife?

Private 'as-is' sales are exempt from lemon laws, you have no obligation to give the money back. YDI for actually doing it.

YDI for trying to sell someone a piece of shit. I know you had the buyer there all convince the car is in good shape everything works good you wont find any problems i had it for X amount of years. Just for them to turn the car on for a test drive and look at you like Bitch if you dont give me back my money i will beat your ass stick your dick in the muffler and REV the shit out of this engine.

And you'd be in jail. You looked at the car and agreed to buy it. Your problem. Don't know what you're doing? Get a mechanic to give it a once over. You wouldn't think of buying a house without having it inspected by a professional, why would you buy a car on your own? Don't be stupid. It's a buyer beware world.
