Today, I told my boyfriend I wouldn't be able to get any time off work to go to Mexico with him, and that we'd have to get our tickets refunded, and reschedule. He said not to bother, and that he already had someone else in mind to take with him. FML

Seriously... Maybe the boyfriend is acting like a dick for telling you he already has someone else in mind to bring along, but don't you usually take off work and THEN book your trip, instead of booking your trip and then trying to get off work that time? I say you partly deserve it for making this a logistic disaster yourself.

So is the other person his new girlfriend, or is he just not allowed to go places without you? Since the FML doesn't specify, it's hard to tell whether the boyfriend is an exceptional asshole or if OP is an exceptional control freak.

Not cool of him however if my husband & I had tickets to travel I wouldn't expect him to return them just cause I couldn't go that's pretty selfish. Secondly, I would buy tickets to travel unless it was already approved off, that's retarded.

I don't quite get why people are saying she must be an exceptional control freak if she doesn't want him going with someone else. For all we know this could be a trip they've been thinking about and planning for ages (though with a bit of a failure on the time off part), so him casually saying he's been thinking about who else he could do it with could be quite a dick move, really. You don't have to be controlling to be excited about doing something together.
