Today, I told my boyfriend that I was going to stop drinking, since I have been having some problems with alcohol and some of my relatives are alcoholics. He later broke up with me, saying he couldn't be with someone who "chose to be boring." FML

He is the boring one because he thinks you need alcohol to have a good time!

I'm sorry OP. Don't listen to that turtle dick. I know plenty of exciting sober people. Good for you for making an effort! Good luck!

Two things: 1) STOP YELLING AT ME AND NEGLECTING TO USE PUNCTUATION 2) Just stop commenting. Please, for the love of God, just stop.

Good for you. Don't sweat it. It's his loss, not yours.

He is a ******* loser for needing alcohol to be "exciting".

Sounds like the kind of boyfriend who is a bigger problem than the alcohol, may even cause the drinking.

Good luck! Alcoholism runs in my family too but I still drink. Not as much as them though. Forget that loser. Its better that you know how much of an asshole he really is now than in 5 years time if you ended up with a kid together.

Your ex-boyfriend is a total dick. If he needs alcohol to have excitement, you're much better off without him even if you've never drank in your life. Good for you for stopping drinking!

Your ex-boyfriend is a total dick. Even if you never drank in your life, it's stupid that he'd need alcohol for any form of excitement. Good for you for quitting!

You're obviously hiking different trails, so he's done you a big favor. Try to be as grateful for it now as you will be later.

You don't need an SO who's going to keep you from doing the things you feel you need to do to become a better person. Unfortunately a lot of people who decide that they're going to make major lifestyle changes like stop drinking, stop taking drugs, lose weight, find religion, get therapy, etc., etc., find that they lose more than a few friends along the way. There are also a lot of people in your life who have a lot invested in the "old you" who are going to try to keep you from changing. Don't pay any attention to them. (Although that gets really tough if those people are family members.)

You know what's not boring? not getting. mentally retarded and waking up feeling like shit.
