When people say, "I don't mean to be rude," they are lying. They absolutely mean to be rude. Just like when people say, "I hate to tell you..." when in fact, they love to tell you those things, they practically live for it. OP, you can do better than this rude & insensitive, pathetic excuse for a "lady."

Here's a fun trick. Let someone talk uninterrupted for a while. Count the number of times they say "Um". Let's call that number X. 200-x*5 is the highest IQ they possibly have. Scientific? Oh, no, not remotely, but it'll get you through listening to some really awful student presentations in college.
