Today, I told the cute girl in my office that she looked like she listened to country music, as an icebreaker. She blankly stared at me for what felt like forever, and responded with, "That's the worst thing you could say to a person," and walked away. She hasn't talked to me since. FML

Well I kind of agree. Telling someone they "look like the kind of person who..." could easily be taken offensively.

I would've just smiled and jokingly said "you look like somebody who doesn't know how to talk to girls" 1 for 1

See if someone said that to me, all I would hear is "You look like a redneck", which I would not take as a compliment in any way, shape or form

Is... Is that seriously the BEST thing you could think of, to say, as an icebreaker? Not anything along the lines of, "Hey, I'm <name>. Nice to meet you."

I agree with her, country music is the worst thing in the world.

Worse than telling someone to kill themselves, even? Some people need to lose the diapers already.

0.00% chance I'd date anyone that opened with that line.

I don't think she overreacted as a few people are saying. If you talked to her normally instead of trying annoying pick-up lines then she might speak to you. I actually think you're overreacting a little by saying she hasn't spoken to you since. She had never spoken to you before, why would she suddenly be talking to you now that you've tried to hit on her?

Why would you insult the poor girl like that? Compliment her. Tell her she looks like she listens to GOOD music instead

Nothing about being a fan of country music makes one more or less intelligent, but there is a tangible correlation to country music, lower income, lower education, and lower intelligence. Again, you can be a genius and be a country music fan, but there are a lot of people that pull up the corrolated similarities when country music is brought up.
