Today, I took my 12 year-old to the orthodontist. While I was talking to the dentist about what was needing to be done, my daughter listened. With a straight face, the dentist joked, "Yeah, we're going to need to rip off her entire jaw." My daughter won't leave her room anymore. FML

I know not all kids are the same but 12 seems old enough to realize he was joking

Have the dentist call her and apologize and tell her it's not true.

Umm I would never go back to that dentist. Joking or not

What a monster! I was terrified of going to the dentist as a kid and if he said something like that to me I probably wouldn't be even able to look at a dentist's mirror without screaming to this day.

my orthodontist used to threaten to cut part of my tongue off if I didn't learn to swallow correctly.... I was eight

That's very traumatizing. Dentist for some people is scary enough. The dentist should know better

36 - I've seen so many of your comments recently, and not one has had positive votes. When I was 12 I had to get my first (and thankfully only) cavity drilled. My dentist thinks it is hilarious to store a giant, almost jackhammer size, drill to get out when a child is getting a cavity drilled saying that's what he's using. I didn't sleep for 2 days.

Is your daughter's dentist Dr. Giggles?
