For my birthday every year I go out with my friends to a restaurant, but it is always assumed that they pay for themselves and I for myself. Since it is my birthday sometimes people have paid for my meal, but usually they don't since they have already gotten me a present. That being said, if you planned the party and chose to go to an expensive restaurant this is your fault. Why would you expect them to pay for the cake? They probably had already gotten you something. It would have been nice if they had split the cost of the cake, but what on earth did you expect, we're in a recession! This isn't a FYL, it's a YDI, next time pick a more affordable restaurant.
"Today, I took my friends out to an EXPENSIVE restaurant for MY birthday treat" Hmmm...being considerate would usually entail choosing a restaurant with a modestly priced menu - if you are expecting to be "treated", that is. YDI.
It sounds like the OP paid for all the food but hadn't factored in the cost of the cake he hadn't planned on getting. His friends ordered it without his permission and expected he would pay for it.
well, Happy Birthday anyway!
@24 and #25- She wasn't expecting to be treated to anything..... She agreed to pay for their dinner, if you notice, thats NOT what she is complaining about. The cake was a SUPRISE for her arranged BY HER FRIENDS! If you're going to do something special for a friend, even if they agreed to pay for the dinner out, why wouldn't you (or the group of people) at least THINK about taking care of that part of it. Because yes, that is lame to pay for your OWN birthday cake. Especially when it's an unexpected part of the bill. F the op's life for having thoughtless friends after doing something nice.
Pretty lame, sorry your friends are douches.
your friends blow =/
well i dont know how it is in pakisatan... in america thata sucked mabey it was a special pork cake? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... pork
Well I don't really know how it would work over there, but here the birthday desserts are not free, and if you were paying for the dinner then you would obviously be paying for the cake as well. But your friends should have offered to chip in to pay for the cake if you were paying for their food. FYL.
Birthdays aint about getting gifts, its about celebrating your existance and a good excuse to go overboard with alcohol. On my bday i spend a few 100 euro's on alcohol and in return i got drunk friends and a very good time. FYL for being so focused on money!
