Today, I tried lying to my parents for the first time. My mother is a neuroscientist and my father is a psychologist. Somehow, they managed to make me admit that I was lying before I'd even finished. FML

Today was my first success! ... Sort of. Anyone else have parents like this? I finally managed to lie undetected but.. Well.. Like I said, sort of a success.

Now become a sociologist and mind blow them. Then blame society.

Unless OP is under 8, how was this their first time lying?

I'm guessing because of their parents' professions, they haven't bothered trying to lie.

Never states that OP hasn't lied to other people. And with the results on attempting to lie to them, I think we understand why it hasn't been attempted previously.

Some parents are laid back and OP may not have had the need to lie before. If my kid is honest, some times it's like a get out of jail free card.

You're either gonna end up a very good liar or a very honest person with parents like that.

I had a child psychology prof and a child-care center director for parents. I came out of it with the lying skills of a sociopath. I can beat the lie detector four times out of five.

Agreed. My dad was a polygrapher(as in, the guy that runs lie-detector tests) and while I was super honest when I was younger but by the time I was 16 I could fool him and anyone else. I can still lie as easily as a sociopath when I need to.

if you lie to your parents and they're smarter than you.... you're going to have a bad time.

That's good that you seldom lie to your parents, and now you have a better idea of what to do if you do start lying regularly: Become The Ninja Master Of Secrety Secrets.

I have my Bachelor's in Psychology and at no point did I "learn how to lie". Your statement is false.

I love how everyone is telling OP they deserve it for lying as if they've never lied before in their lives.

I think the YDI's come more from the fact that OP knew their careers and still tried to lie to them.

Because everyone does it, does not mean they don't deserve the consecuences.

You didn't have a snowflake's chance in hell. YDI you poor child. No lying for you!

You're over thinking the lie. Nobody will believe it if you don't first, especially them. Confidence is key. Sadly, with their professions it sounds like they even try to break down the truth. You will have quite the difficult time in the future. Or, like many have said, you will become the master of lies.

a good lie contains some truth, some omission and part fairytale. don't forget to act natural, look them in the eyes. but blink, or you look suspicious... not that I've eve lied in my life...

That's the common misconception about lying, looking them in the eyes. The actual fact is you should look them in the eyes, but don't make prolonged eye contact at all. It shows you're looking for their reaction and whether or not they're buying your fish story. If you can convince yourself that what you're saying is truth, it goes a long way to beating someone who's trying to catch you in a lie.

This guys and girls, is coming from a trained liar; one that can lie like a sociopath, you better believe. him/her

FYL, every kid lies to their parents at some point, and mostly it works!
