Today, I tried to work on my attitude at work. People say I'm mean, so I tried to be nice all day. Apparently I'm now condescending. FML

You can't please everyone. When you're too focused on living up to other people's standards, you aren't spending enough time raising your own. Some people may whisper, complain and judge so meh, be yourself and be happy.

if they think you are condescending, maybe that's because you are. I'm not saying you're doing it on purpose, but because you were/are perceived as mean, and you're now actively trying to be nice (even though your primary reaction is to be mean), the "trying" looks like condescending even though you are sincerely being nice. practice being nice all the time and let those mean thoughts / frustrations go. perceptions doesn't change overnight, if you persist on being nice, they'll soon realize what they thought was condescending was actually just you being nice

i think you have that backwards, bullies do not pick on someone by calling them mean... it would be the bully who is the mean one... (not saying op is, just that you dont make sense)

Nah I was called "mean" by certain mommas because I wouldn't hang out with their kids who were druggies, sleeping around without protection, and frankly sleeping around (they were 11), and they bullied me. But I was the "mean" one because I wouldn't "save" them by being a good example to them by bein their bestest besty friend. So yes, bullies call others mean. At OP, don't give up! If you want to change your attitude it's going to take time, but as long as you're sincere about it, you'll get better at convincing people.

37 - yeah but thats a differnt kind of scenario than the one im talking about. in this situation the op did try to change their attitude, implying they admit they have a problem that needs adressing. if the people were bullying op in some way then theyd say something directly in the fml. so your scenario doesnt exactly fit the scenario . im talking about in my generization
