Sorry, Op! He was probably just joking, trying to make the moment less awkward. Nevertheless, it was a sick joke. Happy birthday though?
I think, OP, you've overstayed your welcome with your folks.... Time to get out and get going with your life... I don't think your parents are all that into you!
In the US they are legally obligated to take care of OP until they turn 18.
Or maybe some parents are just assholes?? 0.0
#32 I think you would be a dick parent like this.
how come there are so many YDI's?? Sorry OP. :(
That happened to me, I was 14 though and at about 9:30 that night my Grandma came in said Happy Birthday we didn't think you want any cake or ice cream because you're old enough to not want it here you go and handed me a 20 ...then about 10 minutes later my mom came in and handed me a 20 and said Happy Birthday. It happened twice in my life....Don't let it get to you, eventually you will find someone that loves you and you can have your own family.
I'm so sorry, OP! Happy Birthday. I really hope he was joking.
I never really understood the idea of kicking kids out when they turn 18. What's special about 18? And if they decide to go to college, suddenly they'd be burdened with paying for rent & everything as well as college on their own - way to encourage going into debt (with a college loan). I think it's interesting that this philosophy exists in the US whereas in some other countries, the norm is for people to continue to live with their parents until they get married.

That sucks OP! My condolences. But on the bright side, happy 17th birthday! I hope it'll be much better next year.
Jokes on him, you get to stay another year!
