Today, I was accepted to Harvard's law program. Prestigious right? After hearing the good news the only thing my parents talked about over dinner was who they wanted to win American Idol: Adam, Kris or Danny. FML
I agree, your life sucks 58 899
You deserved it 5 187

If you graduate with top honours, get a job as a lawyer on $100,000 per year and still have time to spank your monkey and your family are still talking about the latest series of American idol then I would suggest and FML. Either that or is an outragiously amazing programme in which case I must tune in!!!

100k is shooting low for a lawyer

Yeah considering the things you can specialize in, get a few cartel or biker clients. Big money and repeat customers

Congratulations. But you seem like you expect some sort of dramatic reaction from your parents. The fact that they couldn't care less to talk about you getting into Harvard means that they've been expecting it anyway. Time to work on that ego, though. Good job on getting into Harvard, but don't expect all the attention to be centered around you. That's disgusting.

really? getting into harvard law is a pretty big deal, and the fact that OPs parents couldn't even spare a 30 minute dinner to congratulate him is pretty sad..

This is not an FML, you got into Haravard. Though, they're still giving out decisions this late?

its HARvard not HARAvard lol izz okaii cuz i do dhat kinda stuf all tha time

I want to sympathize with you, but to make it a little fairer to your parents, the topic has probably been around for quite some time, and your acceptance was expected for them. Some parents just don't think or worry about that sort of thing, because they expect their kid to do well. I am curious as to what sort of response were you expecting though.

Who cares what school you got into? gratz on getting into Harvard, but it doesn't make you any better than the next person. Just because you got into a nice school doesn't mean you're going to be successful. Look at gates.

Well actually, it makes him better than 90 something percent of the applicants who don't get in, plus you, who apparently doesn't know how prestigious Harvard is.

You're too full of yourself to feel bad for, sorry.

Your ego is fine..... you got into Hahhhhvaaaaad. I bet you that none of the douchebags above who were quick to judge you couldn't have made it in. It IS a prestigious school and there's nothing wrong with being proud of yourself, especially when parents don't seem to be! Knowing that someone notices your good efforts makes you feel god, and the opposite is the same. Though, this isn't a FML; it's just life. You know who was in Hahhhhhhhhhvaaaaaaad's law program? Obama and his lady!!!!

The OP didn't say they ignored it completely, just that it wasn't what was discussed at the dinner table. I think American Idol might provide a more interesting conversation than repeating "Oh, our kid got into Harvard, we're so proud".
