By thanks, my fellow americans - 18/04/2013 21:41 - United States - Woodlyn

Today, I was again turned down by a potential host family on a student exchange site. Their reasoning was basically that since I'm American, I might do something to endanger my health, get hurt, and then sue them over my own stupidity. FML

Well, that's the first time I learn about discrimination against Americans...

But... if you are in another country (as I assume you will be) THEIR laws apply. Kind of a stupid reason not to host someone. Most countries don't have the frivolous lawsuits so prevalent in the U.S. You can't sue someone who's a citizen in another country under a U.S. law, it just does not work like that. Explain it to the next family if they raise that issue.

op what's the exchange site?I am from mexico but I lived in the USA for 6 years so I know english ,and I'm learning japanese :)

That seems to be the foundation our country was built on. But that's not your fault.

oh I'm going on a host family trip try not to worry about it too much! there loss right?

Well, it's their loss for believing stereotypes and not taking the time to actually get to personally know an American.

It's sad that America projects this image now. Not all of us have lost our way.

Man, foreign people do not like us Americans. When im playing world of tanks on the test server where it combines all servers together, Russians teamkill American players out of the blue for no apparent reason! And it wasnt just one player, I've witnessed it happen like 20+ times in one night. People everywhere have the same level of stupidity as everyone else. Being American doesnt mean that we are all stupid. Its just a common fallacy that all Americans are stupid just from hearing about one thing.
