Today, I was at a restaurant when I heard a young girl telling her father she didn't think she was pretty. When I got up to leave, I walked past her table and told her she was beautiful. Her dad then punched me in the face. FML

Today, I was eating at a restaurant when a man came up to me and said, "You're pathetic for having lunch with someone that much older than you." My dad immediately got up and punched the man in the face. My fiancé's parents had to walk in the door right as it happened. FML

Today, I went out to eat at a restaurant. When the waitress saw me, she continously told me how beautiful and kind I was. Flattered, I just said thank you. Five minutes later, one of the ugliest girls I've ever seen in my life walked in. The waitress told her the same exact things she told me. FML

your heart was in the right place, but maybe next time say something like "i overheard you saying that you don't think you're very pretty and i just wanted to let you know that i think you're beautiful"...maybe the dad wouldn't have punched you then...even so he shouldn't have punched you in the first place...ASSAULT!!

I think this was a very sweet thing to do. It probably helped the girls self esteem. I've had random people come up to me and tell me I'm beautiful before and I always appreciated it because they were kind. I don't see why people are getting so bent out of shape for eavesdropping. Sometimes you just tune in at a certain point in a conversation or overhear something you didn't mean to. Everyone eavesdrops at some point during their lives. Get the hell over it. I say props for trying to make this little girl feel better, the dad clearly overreacted.

Wow. This is a tangled ball of suck. It sucks you got hit for doing something nice (assuming you aren't a pedo of course.) It sucks that the girl, after finally being told she was pretty (according to your story it doesn't sound like her dad told her that) her dad punched the guy out. She's gonna have problems later if this is typical! It sucks that the dad has his head so far up his butt he can neither reassure his daughter, nor tell when someone else is.
