pixelbaker tells us more.
The "documents" were basically just data sets pulled from a database stored on a workstation in the office. This workstation is not backed up. Yes, the company is full of morons. No, I'm not fighting it because this was the last straw of many last straws. I don't want to work for these idiots any more.

Cant you just get a compensation? or just do it for the sake of pissing them off?
I honestly just don't give a shit at this point. I have a new position waiting for me elsewhere, I just didn't want to deal with the hassle of starting a new job that pays a little less.
Basically, the woman who you were helping has no idea how to use a computer.
Christ, it's not your fault the client was a dumbass. FYL
Yeah, I worked as an IT guy for a while... It really sucks. You wouldn't believe some of the stupid stuff people do, or fail to do. There was this one lady who had me take apart her keyboard to see what was wrong with it, she insisted it was broken. I tested EVERYTHING, it took me a few hours. When I gave it back, I confessed I was unable to find the error. She then asked me where to plug the keyboard into to charge it up. She was referring to the USB cable.
#122 YDI for not testing the keyboard yourself first. IT end-user support is easy if you follow one rule: Approach every single case as if the user is a drooling retarded monkey on meth, because they usually are about as smart. Seriously, I find a good 60% of the time when I try to do the thing the user says she can't do, it works fine and there's no issue. And I never, ever, ever ever ever try to talk one of these mouth-breathing cretins through something over the phone. They might be American, but they DO NOT understand simple English instructions. Also, I write into all my contracts a clause to the effect of "if your employees do something idiotic, I'm not responsible". Being an in-house IT guy sucks ass. You're a punching bag. Been there. Being a consultant is awesome. Triple the money + half the headache = Win.
#131 - You are a complete and utter win. I think I'm in love.
She totally deserves it for being uneducated in at leas total basics of being (sane?) computer legible. Her company deserves all the trouble caused by the deleting of the files for hiring total unexperienced and incoherent idiot. Your employers were dumbasses. FYL, I feel sorry for you. You did nothing wrong.
Dumbfucks that are that stupid don't deserve to use computers
This is why at my company we remotely tap into your computer... FYL that sucks you shouldn't have been fired- close and delete are two very different terms!
Keywords
FYL, a person that doesn't know the difference between 'close' and 'delete' shouldn't be allowed near a computer.
While reading this FML I thought it would end with the woman closing her windows (as in the glassy things you can look through), but this is even worse. What an incredibly stupid human being.
