Deodorant applied to where your thighs rub is a great method to reduce discomfort. It shouldn't matter if it's scented, but unscented is generally better for sensitive skin.
What I do to prevent that is to just wear leggings underneath. For me, I no longer feel my thighs rubbing together when wearing them. Maybe try that?
