Today, I was forced to spend New Years Eve with my strict/conservative parents in the middle of nowhere in Illinois. If I had nothing else, I looked forward to watching the ball drop in NYC. As the seconds counted down the T.V. shut off. Parental controls shut down cable at midnight. FML

God forbid you should have to spend some time with your parents. On the other hand, I've been to Illinois, and FML for having to be there.

Illinois is an hour ealier than N.Y.C. So it would have been at 11:00 PM

Sorry, but no chance. The ball dropping in New York would happen at 11pm in Illinois, so blocking cable at midnight would stop you from seeing the ball drop.

Well being in IL, I can tell you this is false. The ball drops at 10 here due to the time difference.
