Today, I was going to propose to my girlfriend. At the right moment, I got down on one knee. As I was reaching into my pocket to get the ring, she got so freaked out she kicked me in the face. I chipped a tooth and the ring flew off, and now I can't find it. FML

OP, you (probably) didn't deserve the kick in the face unless you're my ex and have a documented habit of not listening when your girlfriend tells you she doesn't ever want to get married well before the unwelcome surprise proposal, which she also said she hates. But assuming you were just clueless, why didn't you talk about marriage or future plans in general with your girlfriend? I never understand these proposal FMLs, because they could have been so easily avoided by not making the proposal itself a complete surprise.

Somebody who really doesn't want to be proposed at. I've been where the girlfriend has, only without the quick reflexes. It is not a pretty place.
