Today, I was offered a position as a school crossing guard. I have a $200,000 degree in Economics from a top 20 University and was offered a position to hold a stop sign and wear a reflective vest. I was tempted to accept. FML

does the marginal benefit exceed the marginal cost?

STOP SIGN. REFLECTIVE VEST. Why the hell not? You can do like, awesome little dances, and tell the kids, "Don't stop!" as they're crossing the road, and only hope a passerby will cry out, "BELIEEEVIN'!" Orrrr, you can be one of THOSE crossing guards, and spank kids with the stop sign when they're being naughty naughtyyy.

U kno, whenever i read these "high degree in college, lame job" fmls, i think, ur just a loser and idiot if u cant get a good job

YDI for spending $200,000 on a degree. Mines going to cost me under $30,000.

You last few commenters seem to be unaware of the fact that OP is a *man* So unless you're using bitch as in 'Stop being a whiny bitch' rather than 'that woman is dumb' then buy a clue. BTW I don't think the OP is being whiny - You work hard for your degree = ya want mullah finally after years of being an poverty stricken overworked student

Maybe you should have gone with something other than an economics.

this is where you take the operunity and write a book from it you have the smarts right?

Take whatever job you can get nowadays. Unless you can work in the medical field, not too many places are hiring.

YDI, OP, for choosing a WORTHLESS major. Granted it's better than art or history, I'll give you credit for that. People need to realize that the world has no place for worthless people who contribute ZERO to society, ESPECIALLY in this economy. If you had gone engineering with an $60-80K degree you'd have multiple job offers out of school. Plus $120-140K extra for investments you could have profitted on. You do the math.

Going by the OP's comment to this, it's more the fact that he would have had to sign the one year contract. He couldn't have just worked that job until something better came along. If his dream job came up in 11 months, he'd have to turn them down. It seems like (although it would be disappointing) he'd take a job that wasn't in his field/wasn't what he wanted as long as he could have the option of taking something better (AKA something that can actually pay for car AND health insurance as well as groceries and rent every month) if it came along. I will say it sucks for you, OP, that your education cost that much. When I finish law school, I'll have less than half that much in loans - total.

In this economy, you probably should have accepted. You might regret it when another 6 months goes by and the loan company is hounding you.
