Today, I was offered a position as a school crossing guard. I have a $200,000 degree in Economics from a top 20 University and was offered a position to hold a stop sign and wear a reflective vest. I was tempted to accept. FML

does the marginal benefit exceed the marginal cost?

STOP SIGN. REFLECTIVE VEST. Why the hell not? You can do like, awesome little dances, and tell the kids, "Don't stop!" as they're crossing the road, and only hope a passerby will cry out, "BELIEEEVIN'!" Orrrr, you can be one of THOSE crossing guards, and spank kids with the stop sign when they're being naughty naughtyyy.

Join the club buddy. yea it sucks but you better take it until you find something better, there isn't much else out there.

CRACK UP. yet another person who wastes money and time getting a degree and expects a job completely ideal for their qualifications to fall outof the sky like a piece of meat. Its a "recession", or did the qualification not cover that point

Your first mistake was majoring in Economics. You second was spending 200k. I am sure you thought that if you spent 200,000 on a degree you could get at a community college you would instantly start making bank. I am about to graduate with an engineering degree and already have jobs lining up. Oh and I have less than 20k in loans.

Take the damn job, you self-entitled bastard. Thousands of unemployed people would KILL for a JOB, ANY JOB.

Just because some asshole who thought he was better then me for having a 4yr degree in Economics, your fault cause you thought that degree would get you a good job

Just because you get some big fancy degree does NOT mean you will get a job in that field as soon as you're done...or at all. Yes, you do have a better chance at getting a job that somebody who doesn't have a degree does...but that doesn't mean you'll get it. Right now, I'm taking classes to be a dog/cat groomer. Do I expect to get a grooming job after i'm done? No. But I do have a better chance than somebody who didn't take classes. Stop complaining and take the job. There are millions of people who probably would have said yes right away that are unemployed right now.....like me. I got laid off from my welding job, and they aren't taking me back. Reason for the dog grooming classes. I'd be willing to work at a grocery store right now just so I can get a little extra money. I would have taken the job. Why wouldn't you want a job where you to stand around for a few hours?

I have no idea about the economic situation in the US at the moment. All the media says is that the recession is still happening. However, the media keeps mentioning our "hard economic times" and "the recession" above the border too, yet the recession officially ended in Canada in early March. Companies are still using the recession as an excuse to fire unneeded employees and have a hiring freeze (for the most part). It is difficult to find a job anywhere; even a part-time job for high school/university students. I have no proof to back up my claims, they're something I heard on a RELIABLE talk-radio show in April.

So, what? Spending $200,000 to get that degree means that you're entitled to a frigging CEO position (yeah, yeah, I know it's an exaggeration)? Or that you're too important to have that simple of a job? Get the **** over yourself, bitch.

Umm, $200k for a degree in Econ. uh, I'm guessing you failed your major--even an MBA at Harvard wouldn't have cost you $200k. Stick with the crossing guard gig... it sounds more your speed.

The MBA program is at most 2 years... And you can't get in without a degree+ 2 years good work experience, or a lot of extraordinary work experience

Kalidescope knows what's up. Instead of taking a bad job, you need to take a job with what you know, or even an internship or something to add something useful to your resume. An internship with a company related to where you're applying will be noticed more than "crossing guard"
