Today, I was offered a position as a school crossing guard. I have a $200,000 degree in Economics from a top 20 University and was offered a position to hold a stop sign and wear a reflective vest. I was tempted to accept. FML

does the marginal benefit exceed the marginal cost?

STOP SIGN. REFLECTIVE VEST. Why the hell not? You can do like, awesome little dances, and tell the kids, "Don't stop!" as they're crossing the road, and only hope a passerby will cry out, "BELIEEEVIN'!" Orrrr, you can be one of THOSE crossing guards, and spank kids with the stop sign when they're being naughty naughtyyy.

Why does my crotch smell? Is it the economy?

YDI for paying $200,000 for a degree. Seriously! =p

#100 is the only one who seems to know what the f's up with the economy you seriously continued to use 200k to learn about the economy? Just watch CNN, they'll tell you for free just how deep in shit we are. lol

welcome to the world of democrat obama. you wanted equality you got it. everyone has an equal right to a low paying job regardless if education.

What is everyone complaining about? The only way you are not going to get a job is if you don't try hard enough or you really aren't qualified for the position. Last summer I sent out resumes to over 17 different companies in my area -- some companies had more than one position, so I easily applied for over 40 positions. I'm still working part-time through the school year with the same internship. Right now, I've actually got 3 jobs that I'm working part-time for in addition to my classes this semester. If you got an art or music major and you can't find a job, well, that's what you get for having a degree that's worth less than the ink used to print the diploma. Although I sympathize with the OP, it IS his fault for choosing an economic degree. Not only that, he went to either a private OR out of state school which gave him NO funding. A 200,000 dollar undergraduate degree? For economics? I'm sorry, but the degree from the local university that would have cost you all of 40,000 max is as useful as yours. It virtually does NOT matter where you go for undergraduate, as long as you have the grades, research, and portfolio. Especially if you aren't going for grad school. Moral of the story? OP needs to go to a local university and study computer science or engineering. Us computer science people still have companies that are lining up to offer us jobs.

scum for thinking money gets you somewhere fool, and second top 20 isin't that good my friend.

It's a recession, we all have to suck it up! Next year will (hopefully) be better!

Exactly! A job is a job. The OP should get off of his high horse and just take it.

Sorry, but: BS. There are better jobs around - with a degree and a US passport you can do a lot of interesting things. Taking a job as a crossing guard shows nothing but a severe lack of imagination. OP: if there is really nothing to be had in the US, then teach English in Asia - pays better, gets you some experience abroad and should be fun, too.

well with us unemployment approaching 10%, perhaps you should reconsider this "terrible" job. get off your high horse. it's something. are you right outta college? because those figures are far worse for employment. good luck.
