Today, I was offered a position as a school crossing guard. I have a $200,000 degree in Economics from a top 20 University and was offered a position to hold a stop sign and wear a reflective vest. I was tempted to accept. FML

does the marginal benefit exceed the marginal cost?

STOP SIGN. REFLECTIVE VEST. Why the hell not? You can do like, awesome little dances, and tell the kids, "Don't stop!" as they're crossing the road, and only hope a passerby will cry out, "BELIEEEVIN'!" Orrrr, you can be one of THOSE crossing guards, and spank kids with the stop sign when they're being naughty naughtyyy.

Too bad sitting at home thinking you're too good for the jobs you're offered doesn't pay as much as holding that stop sign will.

Dude, im sorry but you deserve it. I bet you were an idiot and turned down other, better, offers already. Im sorry but getting a degree from a buisness college doesn't earn you shit anymore. Either take this job and redouble your efforts on finding something better (which is what most people are saying). Or get into an MBA program, maybe not at your "$200,000" school, but anywhere. An MBA from the most shit college is better than a bachelors from anywhere. I'm sorry, but yeah, an econ degree still falls under "business". And business doesn't mean much. You're all seen as worthless college grads that can't hack it under a more difficult degree. (ever seen lim as GPA ->0 engineer = buisness student?) I know that most don't fit the stereotype. But too many do. I wish you luck. Work your ass of for the job you want. Its the only way you will get it.

Kiss my ass. F your life because you were tempted to accept a job? Most of us would kill for that job - ANY job! I understand, it sucks that your good education didn't land you your dream job, but stick with it, you'll get there. But seriously, in this economy, don't be so high and mighty as to look down on yourself for considering a job offer. All the unemployed people on this board just threw up in their mouths a little bit.

No. Some of the unemployed people actually read the post OP made and realized how bad the job would suck for them. Signing a 1 year contract to make $108 a week in the middle of the day preventing them from getting a second job? If I had student loans to pay off, which OP does, I probably wouldn't have taken the job either.

Why dont you spend more money and get a Masters degree in Economics? That would look pretty impressive.

Why dont you consider working at your university? I am sure you could get a job doing something

Holy god. You whiny little bastard.

People really need to read comment #50... A 1 year contract to turn a stop sign-- I dont think so-- I'd do it but I wouldnt sign a contract I would want to keep looking for better work!
