Today, I was outside searching for "treasures" with my son using small plastic shovels. All of a sudden he starts screaming. He dug up the bones of our old dog. I told him that we had sent him away to live on a farm, I even helped my son write letters to the farm owners. FML

Perhaps you should have buried the dog further down... he must've been awfully close to the surface if your son was able to reach the bones with a plastic shovel.

And this is why we shouldn't lie to our kids about dumb stuff. They can handle the truth.

You can bury your dogs there? We cremate ours. But serious ydi you are supposed to dig graves 4-6 ft so that stray animals don't smell the rotting flesh and dig it up. Your lucky that didn't happen, cause that would have been traumatizing! I don't get the spoiling of children, your just going to make it hard for him to deal with shit in life. If grandma dies is she just gone to live on a farm?

You did it, you obviously dug a shallow grave and for lying to your child. Children need to experience death at some point and the body probably would have been discovered eventually.

Usually, you should bury any animal deep down. Not close enough to the surface for a plastic shovel to find.

Lying to a kid, someone who still trusts everything you say? That's mean. When someone's pet dies, they deserve to know. If you raise a child and lie to them the whole time, don't get upset if they start lying right back. When you're a parent, you should be honest so you can raise your kid to be honest too. YDI

Say you found a dinosaur bone and carry on digging

That is why the term "six feet under" exists...

kids growing up with animals need to learn about their deaths. they can't live in wounderland forever.
