Today, I was running late for an important job interview because I couldn't find my keys. I place the keys on my kitchen counter every day to prevent exactly this type of situation. After few minutes and missing my interview, I finally found my keys, in my hand. FML

Today, I showed up to an important meeting 20 minutes late, claiming I couldn't find my keys. They were in my hand the whole time, and I realized it just as I reached for the doorknob. Everyone saw me pause mid-step, staring at my hand in disbelief. FML

After searching around for way too long, I finally realised where they were - in the pocket of the pants I'd worn the day before, which were now spinning around in the now-unstoppable, two-hour washing machine cycle. Today, I was looking for my condo keys, thinking I had left them in my mailbox on the first floor the night before. Leaving to check, I realized I'd forgot to take them out of my door when I had come in, leaving them in the keyhole. FML

Sticky situation

Today, on my lunch break, I ran to the gas station, and threw some trash away on my way in. On my way out, I realized my keys were missing. Thinking I threw them away, and fearing that I'd be late returning to work, I tore through the disgusting trash only to find my keys on the seat of my car. FML

Today, I went through my purse to see where my keys were. I found my house keys, but not my car keys, so I freaked out. When I remembered that I was driving, I felt stupid. FML

Why were you running so late? As an employer I have no sympathy for someone who does not allow time for small emergencies. There is NO REASON to ever be late for a interview. A great big YDI to you absolutely NO sympathy for you here!!!!!

Agreed. I always give myself an extra half an hour to an hour to get somewhere, especially if I've never been there before or if it's crucial to be on time (like, say, for a job interview). Obviously things like car accidents and heart attacks should not be held against the person, but you always need to schedule in time for "incidentals" like this.

I agree that you should leave enough time for small problems, but no reason for being late? That's pushing it. There are a multitude of issues that may arise that make it impossible for someone to be on time that can't be predicted. If you were to adopt such a ridiculous attitude to something so obviously wrong you sound like a pretty crappy employer, and missing out on a position would be dodging a bullet.
