Today, I was sitting shotgun in the car. A huge bug came inside, and everyone began to freak out so naturally I began to swat at it. I got the fly, but I also cracked the windshield. I paid $229 to kill a bug. FML

Either this is a fake, or your friend was using you to get a new windshield. There had to have been a weak point to make it break.

I call bullshit. I live in a pretty bad area, and Ive seen people go at car windshields with stones and theres only been chips. A guy took a good whack at a teachers car at school once, with a baseball bat, and got only a decent fracture. Windshields are designed to take the wieght of a 5 lb impact @ 30mph or more! You do the math but thats about a ton of force or more. But even still - What the ****? 229 is hella cheap for a windshield, so dont complain. YDI.

It's a little bit different when the force comes from the inside of the car. Also notice that he didn't say he shattered the thing, only that he cracked it.

There's two possibilities here: 1. This story is bull shit, no one swatting at a bug could crack a windshield, unless: 2. You were swatting it with a sledgehammer.

Dude this is absolutely true... My friend wrote this and I saw the crack in the windshield. I have no idea how he was able to hit it that hard with just his hand, but still, it really happened. Poor kevkev.

I know it sounds absurd, but I have been in a friend's pickup when someone did this, and the same thing happened. The windshield spider-web cracked across the entire thing. Turns out, it was a faulty windshield. Better to find out this way then while hitting something! But, it's possible. Although, as I told my friend... next time? Roll down a window! It will go back out on its own. So, if they had a similarly weak windshield, it's possible.

When you said you were sitting shotgun, you meant you HAD a shotgun, right? There's no way you can break the glass swatting. I'd even believe punching, some guys are strong enough, but swatting is just bullshit.

Taped tennis shoe against a picture window to kill a fly. I cracked the window, missed the fly. While driving 55 mph, a very large rock was bouncing on the road right at my car. It hit the hud of the car and bounced into my windshield right in line with my face. It did not brake!!! Same car, I was mad drunk and, hit the same windshield with just a light jab with a ring on finger, cracked it.
